Regional Learning Choices Programs offered by the Peel District School Board empower students by providing them with opportunities to develop and explore skills in a particular area of interest. Regional programs are open to all students who meet the criteria for acceptance.

Application Process

The Regional Learning Choices Programs are open to all students. Students who are interested in applying to any of the RLCP programs will be required to meet the eligibility criteria that is specific to the program of interest. Please attend the parent information night to learn more about the program(s) of your choice and how to apply.

Please ensure that your email address is accurate as this is the main communication method between the school and the applicant.

Once you have successfully applied to a Regional Learning Choices program, you will receive a confirmation email within minutes of submitting your application online. If you do not receive an email confirming your application has been received, please wait 24 hours before contacting the school. Schools will only be able to view your application after 24 hours.

Please note that International Visa students are not eligible to apply for Regional Learning Choices Programs. Those here on work or study permits may apply.

Random Selection Process

Applicants are offered space in a Regional Learning Choices Program based on a two-step process:

Once a student applies, there will be a review of their report cards. For elementary: Final Grade 4 Report Cards and Grade 5 Progress and Term 1 report cards will be used to review students’ elementary RLCP applications. For grade 6 students who live south of the 401 and are applying to the Arts program at Queen Elizabeth Sr. Public School, Final grade 5 Report Cards and grade 6 Progress and Term 1 Reports will be reviewed. If a student meets the application criteria, they will move on to the second step in the process.
In the second step, if the student meets the application criteria, their application will be entered into the random selection process for each program. In the random selection process, a computer will randomly assign a number to each applicant who has successfully met the application criteria for each program and spaces for the programs will be offered. Please note that the random selection process is completed centrally at the board level and not at the school level.

Once students have been offered all available spaces in a specific Regional Learning Choices Program, the remaining students will be placed on the school’s waitlist. Each school has its own waitlist.

Self-identification process

The Peel District School Board has a commitment to equity and inclusion for all. As such, based on a process of self-identification, admission to regional programs will reflect the need to address historically and statistically significant disproportionalities in enrollment as per student census data, ensuring equitable representation of African, Black, Afro-Caribbean, First Nations, Inuit and Métis students.

African, Black, Afro-Caribbean, First Nations, Inuit and Métis students who self-identify and meet the criteria for admission will be accepted into the program without participating in the random selection process.

Students who are in an elementary regional program and interested in a secondary regional program will need to self-identify again when applying for secondary RLCP since it is a separate process and students do not automatically gain admittance to the program.

Other Important Details (offers, fee, busing)

Offer acceptance

Offers must be accepted through the Peel board’s online application website.

Local applicants who meet the criteria:

Students who live in Peel (Brampton, Caledon or Mississauga)
- will be offered spots first.
- can only apply to regional programs they are eligible for based on the programs’ boundaries.

Out-of-region applicants who meet the criteria:

Students who live outside of the Peel region
- will be offered spots once local student applicants have been accommodated.

Please note: In some cases, all spots may be offered to students who live in Peel.

Please note that International Visa students are not eligible to apply for Regional Learning Choices Programs. Those here on work or study permits may apply.

Fees

All regional programs include a non-refundable application fee and an annual program fee. Annual fees are specific to the program. All application fees must be paid through the board’s online application website through School Cash Online.

Applicants who may require assistance or have any questions about the application fees are requested to speak with the principal directly.

Busing

Transportation is not provided for students in regional programs. If students have been accepted into a regional program and they live within the school boundary, they are eligible for busing only if they meet the distance criteria outlined in Policy 39 – Transportation.

Disclaimer regarding private school bus transportation

Some programs are supported by parent-funded school bus transportation. This is a fee-based service that is contracted directly between parents and a third-party company. Please note, neither the school nor Peel board is involved with this agreement. All aspects of safety, insurance, licensing, communications, fees, applications, service complaints, student behaviour and pick-up/drop-off locations are the responsibility of such third-party bus company.

Learna is the best place for kids. My 5 year old son started Learna few months back and his learning experience have been fantastic. I am happy with this institute where teachers are very professional and knowledgeable. They know what method to use with each kid. I've started Learna tutoring since 2019 summer vacation. During my year of grade 6, my average mark for mathematics was about 60 percent. After I started coming to Learna, my marks have been around 90 percent or more. This tutoring center has helped me understand many different parts of math which I would have never understood on my own. This is going to be my #1 tutoring center for as long as I will need it!

Learna staff is great. I have seen difference in my daughter in just 2-3 months. My kid was at D in reading to start with now she is at B. I am happy with her progress.
